NOT QUITE PUNK
Genre: Swingin' Skankin' Punk Rockabilly!
Formed in late 2009, Rockin' is this band's #1 goal, and their Guitar, Trumpet and Bass driven sound will make your foot want to tap right out of your shoe! Swingin' with Not Quite Punk is a style all it's own, influenced by greats such as: Django Reinhardt, Sublime, Stray Cats, Mad Sin, Rancid, Mad Caddies and more. The reminiscent yet unique and new sound of N.Q.P. is a mixture of Brian's swing & ska influence, Paz's ska and jazz trumpet, Reese's shredding leads and Myles' booming swingin' drums. It is a sound that appeals to audiences of all ages.
After a little more than one year, Not Quite Punk slayed 70+ gigs in the Northwestern U.S. during 2010 expanding their fan-base through Washington, Idaho and Montana, and is now expecting release of their first studio album titled: Hometown Heroes & Degenerates expected July 2011. A very busy year has had them playing months of back-to-back shows, sold-out shows, and playing for big audiences including: Missoula Hempfest, 3 live on-air hour long sets on one of the nation's top AAA FM radio stations, Schweitzer Mountain Resort, Relay For Life, and Sandpoint City Beach Music Festival and many more. N.Q.P. has recently launched a new website, is currently working on a new music video and preparing for a Cd Release Tour in 2011.
Brian Grise (Lead Vocals / Bass) born in Tarzana, California 1981, grew up in S.L.O. Co., CA, Moving to North Idaho in late 1999. Brian has focused most of his spare time into this band, constantly working to bring the band to the next level, whatever or wherever it may be...
Brian Grise's role as lead vocals and bass for the band is critical and he fulfills it well. Brian is a thoughtful writer/composer and his music creation spans a wide range from humorous songs to serious, complex instrumental pieces. Although Brian focuses on playing the bass in this band, which he has played for 12 years, he has played guitar for 16 years and also plays mandolin, bass, banjo, Ukulele, violin, clarinet and piano. Grise's music was originally influenced by a wide variety including punk rock, jazz, swing, rockabilly, metal, bluegrass, and blues.
Paz Rainbow ( Trumpet ) was born in a bathtub in an apartment complex in Arcata, California, right in the middle of Humbolt County. He was relocated to north Idaho at age three, and his parents were divorced on his fifth birthday. His birthday cake was a pizza enjoyed in a hotel room, and his birthday present was a functional toy keyboard. Many hours were spent with that keyboard, which inevitably broke and was discarded, but a passion was born inside his heart. When the opportunity arose to join band class in sixth grade, he jumped at the idea and begged his mother for a saxaphone. A trumpet was cheaper, but looking back, he wouldn't have it any other way. Paz enjoys many genres of music, including ska, hip hop, heavy metal, black metal, jazz, swing, rockabilly, punk, rock, big band, classic rock, classical, drum and bass, and polka. In his spare time he enjoys playing the guitar, playing bass guitar, rappin' about working in the kitchen, making noises on his keyboard, making beats on his laptop, hiking, and snowboarding. He is married to Nicki, and lives in Sandpoint, Idaho with his two malamut-wolf dogs and his manx cat. With Not Quite Punk, Paz plays a Bach Stradivarious Custom b flat trumpet, sings back-up vocals, shakes the avocado, dances around, and yells in to the megaphone for your entertainment!!
Reese Warren's ( Lead Guitar ) fingers fly along the neck and strings of his guitar as he ignites the energy that is the trademark of Not Quite Punk. To watch and listen to Reese is to experience what a lead guitar should be as he adds a fun, unique style and genuine dynamic to the group's music.
Reese joined NQP after the original three members and he jammed together. There was no doubt for any one of them, that the jazz/blues/rock sound of the band needed this vigorous spark to move to the next level. And, they were no longer a trio.
Myles Larson ( Drums ) is proficient on the keyboard, guitar, bass guitar and mandolin. He can hold his own on woodwinds, such as the bassoon, as well. But when Myles settles onto the throne of his black, double-kick-drum kit surrounded by snare, toms and cymbals, he wails -- fireworks go off. There is no holding back his energy regardless of the genre. From heavy thrash metal to smooth jazz, Larson is in control, and loving it. He also is a talented writer and composer.
Myles has two years of formal training (in addition to early training and years of experience) on percussion, music performance, music theory and music production, working under renown players like Gordie Knudson. He has toured the mid-western US as drummer, he performs with a thrash metal band and recently played with a 60's rock and roll group and even a rock-a-billy group called Muddy Frog Water. He provides a strong, solid foundation to the fun, versatile style that is Not Quite Punk.
